Özkonak underground city was replaced with Derinkuyu which is bigger to explore. The tour guide was also very knowledgeable. We met very nice people in the group.

For our trip to Cappadocia, we chose the Green and Red tours through Headout, and we were simply enchanted by the experience. Thanks to the user-friendly interface offered by the Headout platform, the booking process was incredibly convenient and fast; accessing our tickets or getting answers to our questions was a breeze. We completely eliminated the stress of planning. As for the tours themselves, both routes were perfect for exploring Cappadocia’s unique nature and history. However, the biggest factor that made this adventure unforgettable for us was our guide, Mr. Serkan. Thanks to his wealth of knowledge, sincerity, and approach to the experiences, we had the opportunity to get to know the region much more deeply. We’d like to extend our heartfelt thanks to both the Headout team and our guide, Serkan Bey, for everything. I highly recommend this unique experience to anyone visiting Cappadocia through Headout; it truly became an unforgettable vacation memory.

#This was the my favourite experience of my entire trip in Turkey!! It was so fun, and the guides were helpful (we followed them and rode on tracks/trails specific for ATVs). You can ride by yourself or with your partner or friend. I would highly recommend this to everyone!! 😁

The tour was absolutely incredible, largely thanks to our amazing guide. Their explanations were clear, well-organized, and consistently engaging, so I never felt bored. I especially appreciated how they used visual aids like images to make the history and culture easier to understand. Beyond the formal tour, the guide was very friendly and approachable, happily taking photos for us and sharing fascinating insights about Cappadocia that weren't even on the itinerary. The casual chats during our downtime made the experience feel personal and welcoming. I highly recommend this tour to anyone looking for a deep and enjoyable discovery of the region!

Ride through Cappadocia's valleys

Follow your guide through Swords Valley, Cavusin, Rose Valley, or Love Valley, depending on your route. You’ll ride past fairy chimneys, ancient cave shelters, soft sand trails, and panoramic viewpoints perfect for photos.

Photography tours at scenic viewpoints

Your ride includes planned scenic stops with views over valleys, fairy chimneys, and—if timed for sunrise or sunset—hot-air balloons drifting above the landscape. These pauses allow time for photos, short breaks, and soaking in views you wouldn’t experience from standard roads.

Cavusin village

The trail leads toward Cavusin, a historic village known for its abandoned cave homes and rock-cut churches. Depending on your tour format, you may pause to explore on foot or continue riding past its striking rock towers.

Things to know before booking your horseback riding tour

  • Riding experience: No prior experience is needed. Tours start with a quick briefing and a short practice ride. Horses are gentle and suitable for beginners, while experienced riders can choose faster or longer routes.
  • Terrain: Expect soft dirt paths, narrow trails, and some rocky slopes—especially around Love Valley, Red Valley, and Rose Valley. Routes may change depending on weather and trail conditions.
  • Weather: Spring and autumn offer the most pleasant riding temperatures. Summer rides can be hot and dusty, so sunset tours are popular. In winter, trails may become muddy or slippery in shaded areas.
  • Clothing: Wear long pants and closed-toe shoes for better grip and comfort. Sunglasses and sunscreen help during daytime rides. Bring a light jacket if you're joining a sunrise or sunset tour.
  • Safety: Helmets are provided and must be worn throughout the ride. Guides keep a steady pace and maintain safe spacing, especially on narrow or elevated paths.
  • Riding rules: Most tours are single-rider only due to the terrain. Riders must meet the operator’s minimum age requirement and follow the guide's instructions to ensure a smooth and safe experience.

Swords Valley

Ride through one of Cappadocia’s most atmospheric landscapes, known for its sharp ridges and ancient cave dwellings carved directly into the rock. The paths are narrow and winding, giving riders a sense of adventure without being too challenging for beginners. Some tours include short breaks for photos near panoramic viewpoints overlooking fairy chimneys and hot air balloons.

Rose Valley

This route is famous for its soft pink volcanic rock formations, which shift colors with changing sunlight. Sunset rides here are especially popular, offering warm golden light and great photography moments. Trails weave past tunnels, vineyard paths, old cave chapels, and carved rock frescoes. The terrain is varied. Expect gentle slopes mixed with open stretches ideal for relaxed, continuous riding.

Love Valley

Known for its iconic tall fairy chimneys, Love Valley is one of the most photogenic stops. Riders follow wide, open paths suitable for all levels, passing curious rock columns formed by millions of years of volcanic activity and erosion. Guides often pause at scenic overlooks for travelers to enjoy wide panoramic views or capture photos with hot air balloons in the background if the tour is timed with sunrise.

Cavusin Village

Once an important Greek settlement, Cavusin offers a deeper cultural experience alongside natural scenery. The route leads past abandoned cave homes, old stone arches, and rock-cut churches that display traces of Cappadocia’s early Christian heritage. Depending on the tour format, riders may explore the village on foot briefly or simply pass through its surrounding rock formations.

Your Cappadocia horse riding tour planned perfectly

  • Morning: Start with sunrise balloon watching, then head to the ranch. Gear up and enjoy a guided horseback ride through Rose and Swords Valleys, with soft-sand trails and scenic photo stops.
  • Midday: Continue with a guided Red Tour featuring Uchisar Castle, Pasabag, and Zelve Open-Air Museum. Learn about Cappadocia’s geology, history, and cave settlements.
  • Afternoon: End with a scenic stop in Avanos before returning to your hotel. Sunset rides conclude with glowing rock formations and perfect photo opportunities.

Helpful tips for your jeep or horse riding tour in Cappadocia

Horseback riders on a trail in Goreme, Cappadocia, with unique rock formations in the background.
  • Dress for trail riding: The terrain is dusty year-round, so wear long pants, closed-toe shoes with grip, and comfortable clothes you don’t mind getting dusty. Avoid loose long scarves or accessories that could catch on branches or saddles.
  • Stay hydrated: Many routes offer little shade, especially from late spring to early autumn. Bring a small water bottle or use a saddle bag if provided.
  • Protect eyes and skin: Sunglasses help with wind and dust, and sunscreen is recommended, especially for sunrise or midday rides when UV can be strong even in cooler weather.
  • Keep items secure: Phones, wallets, and cameras should be stored in zippered pockets or a secure waist pouch. Some ranches allow attaching small bags to the saddle.
  • Mind the pace: Horses follow single-file pacing. If you're a first-time rider, relax and let the horse lead; they’re trained for these routes and familiar with the terrain.
  • Book early, especially sunset rides: Sunset horseback tours are the most in-demand experiences in Cappadocia and can sell out several days ahead in high season (April to October).
